Hey, so guess what? We know where we are going to be moving for a year come this July! Before I reveal the location let me explain...
Boyfriend has finished 4 years of medical school in Salt Lake, Utah-
then an internship year of internal medicine at Las Vegas, NV-
then, this June, he will finish up his 3 year residency of ophthalmology here in Memphis, TN.
He could be done after that. We could go into practice and live where we want, BUT, just for the fun of it, Boyfriend would like to add one more year of specialty training. He wants to be an Ophthalmologist specialized in Cornea. He is just that cool.
So for the two months of October & November, he was flying across the country interviewing at 7 different programs. He also had a week long "eyeball" conference in San Fransisco and then a week of charity "eyeball" surgery in Mexico. One might have noticed I wasn't blogging much then. Everything seemed to be spinning at that moment... we were husbandless/fatherless, I had just found out why I was SO MORNING SICK, plus the flu hit our house and all the other lovely season changing illnesses. I personally felt I was swimming in an ocean of despair. Luckily I was able to fly home to Las Vegas for a couple of weeks with the girls and have family wait on me hand and foot. That was so fantastic! Boyfriend was able to arrive just in time for Thanksgiving. When I returned back to reality, more then one person mentioned how good I was looking. It was called REST!
Well, when one applies for a fellowship it works like this:
1. Apply to programs
2. Hope to get an interview with program(s)
3. Rank all the programs in order of preference
4. Programs rank all the interviewees in order of preference
5. Computer matches up all the interviewees with the programs according to the rank list.
Applying for residency worked the same way. But the odds were much different. Boyfriend applied to 40 different ophthalmology programs, interviewed at 11, and we matched at our #6 on the rank list. As for fellowship, he applied to 10 programs, received 7 interviews, and matched at his #1 on our rank list! Yep! We got our number one location! We are thrilled!
DENVER, COLORADO - here we come (all six of us) in July of 2010 until July of 2011.

Yay for you! That's so exciting. That area is on our list of places to live someday, so I hope it's wonderful for you! Congrats, guys!
Congrats!! So many adventures going on for you guys!!
congrats!!! we are so thrilled for you guys!!! hope all is well!
xoxo
We are so excited to have you here in Denver. We can't wait till it's July. Awesome!!!!
We really need to have a Shoreline reunion in CO in the next year!
That is so awesome! We need to make it out to visit you before you leave TN!! I must admit that we are sad you are not moving further East so that we could have you closer to us!
congratulations! Denver sounds awesome.
YEAH! I'm so glad you get to be closer to family!!! That is awesome you got your first pick too!! I'm so happy for you guys!!
Congrats you guys - I'm so glad you got your #1 choice!
Congrats, what is one more year when you have already done 8. How is every thing going with the twin pregnancy? You will do just fine, don't listen to all the horrible stories.
Good for you guys! I think it's awesome that Aaron wants to be a corneal specialist! I worked for Kent Wellish here in Vegas and he is "the corneal specialist" in town. He is the best in Vegas...and his specialty helps set him apart from everyone and patients rather go to a corneal specialist rather than any opthamologist and OD's rather refer to a corneal specialist too so when he goes into practice it will give him an automatic advantage. Hope you guys love CO!!!
Yeah, I knew you couldn't stay that far away for long!
Do not be surprised to find Annie and I on your porch sometime in Aug to help hold babies and entertain little girlies!!!
we are so excited to have you guys live near us!
Did you know Denver is approx. 1000 miles closer to Saint George than Memphis? just saying...
Way to be super-duper smart, Aaron! That is awesome! Denver sounds like a blast!
I LOVE DENVER!!! It is so beautiful and they have great malls...not that you will be spending much time out and about. You get to be cuddling all day...and changing diapers..lol You look beautiful...and GOOD LUCK IN DENVER!!!
Wow... what a whirlwind you have been through. Paul and I call times like that the "dark days." But all's well that ends well...
And good news about your match. Congrats! That's fantastic.
I got a little freaked out when you said "all six of us." Crazy, huh?? Just like that.
Super interested in how the pregnancy it going, and how you are feeling...
Boyfriend is pretty cool! I'm so excited for you guys!! It's an answer to your prayers for when the babies come!!
Congrats! I hope that you'll love Denver!
Carolyn,
Great to "meet" you! : )
No, I don't find you reading my blog strange at all - I love to know my own experience can help out others. Feel free to email me anytime with questions or stuff that comes up along the way - twins are an adventure . . .even long before they make their actual adventure. But it is quite fun too. : )
My grandma passed away around thanksgiving and between that and the holidays, my blog has been a little bare . ..but I hope to pick back up and write a couple more posts to my "If I was having twins again" series as well. Feel free to keep reading.
Praying you have a smooth and healthy pregnancy - amidst a move no less! : )
take care,
Amber
Yah!!! That sounds great. I was just saying to Shane the other day that I would love to move to Denver like - YESTERDAY! Maybe someday (soon). It's so beautiful there and how awesome that you will be closer to the Roberts!!! I'm so happy for you! :)) I hope that we may be able to see you before you go. So silly to live only 6 hours away and never have made the trip. You are all so awesome. Denver is so lucky!!
Congrats guys. We are super stoked for you. Denver is awesome. The medical campus there is amazing. That will be a great place to spend a year.
Dusty, Cori, Zeke, Ali
Darn I was kind of hoping you would match in POrtland. :) I'm so excited for everything going on for you guys! It seems so strange that I haven't seen you for 4 years. Life is just wierd. Good luck with everything.
YAY!!!! I'm SO excited!!! Especially considering Jeromy also decided it would be fun to add on a fellowship year. He's pretty cool that way, too. Otherwise, we might have been leaving just when you guys arrive.
His fellowship didn't follow the Match system, so there was no ranking or anything. Thankfully, he interviewed here and got offered the job before he had to travel anywhere else. Congrats, Aaron, on getting your first choice!
HOLY cow! I didn't know you were preggo with TWINS!!! Aaa! That's so exciting, and what's even more exciting is that I might actually get to be around to watch them drive you up the walls : ) Can't wait!
