Ode to Harlene

I met Harlene only once before.
and from the very first intro,
she was one I could not ignore.

That was four years ago.
I did not know her well,
but through our blogging addiction
my heart for her doth swell.

Now I live across the country
from Miss Harlene and fam,
So that is why their visit
made me happy as a clam.

They went to see their eldest
graduate from training camp.
Dude, that kid is brave -
a real American Champ.

They squished up in their car
headed for Southern Carolina,
but by the time their trip was over
you would've thought they drove to China.

In the car with three chillins'
for 10 plus days
could make one go crazy
or at least grow some grays.

Kids were entertained
by the songs they composes-
of singing in rounds
the classic Guns & Roses.

On day eight,
it started getting dark
so to the Waite's house
their car they could park.

The visit was short.
They left early in the morning.

It wasn't enough time-
their family, we were enjoying.

But now Harlene is home.
I'm sure they had some fun.
And aren't ya'll lucky
my pathetic rhymin's done.

Oh Harlene (and family) thank you for your visit. Our life was dull and dreary, but you (and family) reminded us of the joys to be taken.
Thank you for the gifts you gave.
Thank you for the hair glitter, which we thought at first was body glitter and works just as well for that too.
Thank you (well actually thank your kids) for showing my girls how to let the wind blow through their hair even inside the house.
Thank you for showing them how to play the game of "SUPERMAN" as they jump from the couch onto the bouncy blow up mattress.
We learned that when you are having this much fun, even a bump or two just doesn't seem to hurt as bad.
We are smiling again. We wish you could have stayed longer. We hope you made it home safely. And we hope to see you (and family) again someday soon!

Bravo (or is it Brava because you are a girl?) on your excellent poem! I don't know this Harlene, but after reading your post, I kinda want to, she sounds like a good friend.

Impressive poem! So you met her through blogging and she came and visit? Sounds cool! And I'm now going to go teach my kids the superman.

Hey Carolyn. I can not believe your parents will be back in a couple of weeks - that was so fast (I'm sure not for you). We will be out of town the first weekend you are here for, but will be back that Sunday. Any day after that will work, you decide what is best for your family. I like to shoot at dusk, so it will be around 6:00 - maybe even later depending on the sunshine. I would like payment in the form of a haircut. I just had one a couple of weeks ago and it is driving me CRAZY. She kept my sides too long and I look like a cocker spaniel.
email me amylrhodes@cox.net
See you soon - we'll have to let Eden and Thomas play together.
