Eden came running out of preschool with this picture in her hand. She couldn't wait to tell me about it.
"Mom it's Ava and me on the beach!"
While pointing to the wider one on the left she said, "See this one is Ava. She's wearing a diaper, that's why it's bigger."
Then she started giggling with her hands over her mouth and said, "I put the belly buttons on our chins!" She thought this was super funny.

But I realized, I think this is the first picture I can remember of her drawing bodies with legs. Interesting. They have legs, belly buttons, noses. I wonder when the arms will come into play?
Did you notice the drawing of Ava has ears? Well that's what I thought they were until Eden corrected me. Those are cheeks.

Blake and I just read this...I laughed so hard at the belly button thing I cried a little and Blake was laughing so hard he did his "weezy" laugh.
I am very impressed. Isn't that how Picasso got his start?
Actually ... these are fairly typical drawings for a child Eden's age. Child psychologists often give "Draw a Person" tests to kids to measure their cognitive developmens, sometimes called "Goodenough Draw a Person" tests (after the psychologist who developed it). All kids are different, but often don't come up with arms and legs (in any sort of proportion)until they're four or older. Sometimes if a child simply cannot or will not draw a person of some sort, it may indicate some sort of disorder. That Eden came up with perfectly good drawings and knew what she had drawn (albeit it a belly button on the chin) and was pleased with her work shows she's well aware of what is what for her age. Praise her and love her. Picasso has his problems. Dr. Grandpa, child psychologist -- by on the job training.
Perfectly done, Eden! I love you!
Adorable-i just went and looked through my box of drawings from my kids at this age.
Eden, You make me smile. Thank you!
So cute! I love it. The highlight is the ears/cheeks. Very awesome!
I remember one of my kids starting kindergarden and the teacher meeting with us beforehand. She asked that exact thing: draw a person. She explained after the drawing that she was looking for details. The only thing I remember was that the picture had eyelashes, and the teacher said that was detailed and a good sign this child was ready for school.
I love that Eden thinks she is so funny drawing the belly buttons on the chins! I think she is so funny, too. Tell Eden that Morgan says "that is really funny and draw more pictures for us and put cheeks on you!"
hey there.. Did you get my message? Call me!
So cute! I love these pictures. Are you collecting a stack too? I have a hard time letting any go.
