It's no secret that I adore my dad. I've written a couple of posts already about him here, here, and here.
Well another super cool interesting thing about Dad is he just recently had an elementary school named after him back home in Las Vegas! That is no small feat!

Right now my parents are living in the Philippines for a couple of years, serving a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. They were able to come home for the dedication in June. I was so glad I could be there too.
Dad went over to the school to meet the teachers and students.
He was famous. This kid apparently followed him around as much as possible. I can just hear Dad saying, "yes, yes, you are a nice kid."
During their lunch, the students decided they needed Dr. Roundy's autograph. I think that's cute. Dad has a great signature. Someday I should write about the time my brother really benefited from mastering his father's signature (forging) back in high school.
All the students who attended the school this first year have a hand print up on the wall. My little family got to make a tile also. It will be fun to go back to this school in years to come and find our tile we made.
Here is Dad during the dedication that night. It was a proud moment for all of us kids to see our Dad recognized for being the great person he is! I'm so lucky to have him.
This is the brother I was talking about. He was one of the speakers at the dedication. He basically had me in tears. (which I guess isn't a hard thing to do)
He talked about examples of how Dad was a great father, teaching us... but the best part of his speech was when he said the greatest thing Dad ever did for us was give us our mother.
I had to throw this picture in. It's of Ms. Wisdom... my 6th grade principal! She's intimidating! I was a brat in 6th grade, and actually caused some ruckus here and there. Don't worry, after all these years, I finally got my chance to apologize to her. She forgave me.
I have tons of pictures of the school and such, but haven't uploaded them yet. The school's mascot was thought up by my brother. The Roundy Racers. Genius.

Dad wrote the lyrics and composed the music for the school's song. Here are the words. You can also listen to the music by opening this link in a new window.
We’re Roundy Racers
At C. Owen Roundy School.
We’re Roundy Racers, we use the Golden Rule.
We learn our lessons ‘cause we study hard;
Always fair when we are playing in the yard.
Roundy Racers, we’ll keep our standards high.
Work will always win the racer.
We are the C. Owen Roundy School.
We’re Roundy Racers
Just watch our bright banners wave.
The Roundy Racers will win with time to save.
We have fine teachers and a principal.
All Roundy Racers are invincible.
All you Racers, come join us in our song.
We’re a happy winning team.
We are the C. Owen Roundy School

One of my earliest memories was you father coming in my first grade class at Rose Warren to observe us. I was excited because I knew he was your dad, but I just had to sit there and be quiet. OK, and Ms. Wisdom, was she at Booker? I totally remember her, this sounds terrible, but I thought she was really old when I was in the 6th grade. I didn't think she'd still be around!

What a nice thing you've done!
Hooray for Uncle Owen! We SLC Roundy's are so proud of you Vegas folk. It's almost worth a move so that my kids can go to the school. =) Congratulations!
Thanks for sharing! That sounds like such a great experience. And the Roundy sisters look cute with curly hair.
This is very cool. It makes me so proud to have the Roundy name doing such great things. Congrats Uncle Owen.
It is a long process to have a school named after yourself. Congratulations to your father and family. What a wonderful tribute to him and his wonderful life! I love your parents.
Congratulations to all the Roundy's!
I am happy to finally see pictures. You Roundy kids are one cute group.
Did we miss the Party?? We left the beach and went to David's 10 year class reunion!! If we did, tell Dr. Waite "happy birthday!"
