(Mom and me nine yrs ago)
I always have found it great that Mom's birthday is so close to the Fourth of July. My mother, more often than not, will cry during the Star Spangled Banner. Patriotism reminds me of being "All American"... and being All American reminds me of the "All American Girl" which then is, of course, my mom.
Mom is from Pioche, Nevada. It's a small mining town. Here is a picture of Pioche's main street. Mom grew up at the bottom of the hill in a little yellow house with a white picket fence.
Here are Mom's parents. Grandma Susie and Grandpa Butch. Grandpa 0wned the town's grocery store right there on that main street. He was a butcher... thus the name "Butch". His given name was Harry... which is funny because he's bald.
I didn't get to meet my Mom's parents, but they were good people. Grandma was busy raising 10 children, helping out at the store, along with being fully involved in all charitable acts. Meanwhile, Grandpa was notorious for bringing home any ol' body who needed a good meal or a place to stay. So my mother was surrounded by wonderful life lessons.

Just another look at Pioche and the mine.
I just love that my mother is from a tiny mining town, with good parents, lots of brothers and sisters, came from German heritage, and is such a good good person! One of the best compliments I ever received was someone telling me, "You are just like your mom!" I love it!
Happy Birthday Mom! I love you.

Happy birthday Gail. You've raised some amazing children that I'm proud to say I know. I hope you have a great day.
Happy birthday to your mom...Pioche...right near Panaca...I got my only ticket right there...and the entire 20 minutes I was stopped getting the ticket not one other car passed us...needless to say it is not my favorite place....but we have stopped and used a very yucky bathroom in Pioche when the kids just couldn't make it any farther!
Happy birthday to your awesome mom. I didn't know your mom has German heritage, that's so great. =) And you probably didn't know that my biological mom's birthday is July 7th also. How cool is that ?

I'm surprised to hear your mom is from Pioche! That never happens - my dad grew up in Pioche. His family was in a house at the top of the hill. I have great memories of our visits there. Ask your mom if she remembers the Ridings.
