Sanding, Staining, & Blah Blah Blah

I went to a "Sanding, Staining & Refinishing" class at the hometown woodworking shop. The class was full with men and a total of 2 other women (unless you count the female who introduced herself as "Bubba") I didn't get it.

I made sure to sit front and center, pen and paper in hand. I was about to receive wisdom from a professional of 50 years in the business! His name was Floyd.

The following would be the notes I took from the "Sanding, Staining & Refinishing" class taught by the 71 year old Floyd:

  1. Married to a French Canadian
  2. Only brave/smart people marry French Canadians
  3. Use to refinish classic cars
  4. Didn't loose hearing from genetics, but from diving submarines trying to avoid Russian torpedoes~Blew out ear drums.
  5. May "wear the pants" in the marriage, but his wife is the one who "sewed them".
  6. Loves to eat pork
the class was 3 HOURS LONG... and I know why.

But one major bit of information I did learn was that I really must have one of these for my next project!!!

Oh boy, that sounds like one fun class! I do plan on picking up one of those handy tools though, for all the doors and cabinets that need to be refinished in our house. Manual sanding of them all would most likely kill me.

Hilarious. I am sorry you had to sit through that misery, but it makes for one great story.

Go for it...I love my sander...we bought a table cheap and refinished it. Looks so much better now. After that I refinished 3 coffee tables, our entertainment center and my #1 daughters dresser. It is addictive. Love your blog...haven't seen Aaron since graduation I think. I don't actually live in St. George...but in Ivins, which is a tiny town about 15 minutes from downtown. Loved catching up on Aaron. Can't believe he is a Dr. Always thought he would be an artist or a vet!

That made me chuckle. Do you think I could pull of "Bubba"? I think I am going to ask Blake to start calling me that.

Wow. Sounds like you lost 3 good kid free hours. Sorry about that. :P At least you know what you want in a sander!
