"All Because Two People Fell In Love"

Today, 43 years back, my parents were married.
They found each other in Cedar City, Utah at college. Dad is from a little Utah town called Alton. Mom is an all American girl from a little mining town named Pioche, Nevada.
I'm proud of my roots, where they came from, and what they are doing now.
Mostly I'm grateful they found each other and started their family! I have had a total blissful upbringing. Right out of a Norman Rockwell painting. Not only do I have the most talented yet humble parents, I have the coolest sisters and brother! We would be Owen(Dad), Gail(Mom), Jill, Jenifer (that's not a typo), Travis, me, and Cathy.

Kind of like a version of the Cosby Show. I loved this show and watched it all the time. In family sequencing, I would be Vanessa. Oh, man! Vanessa was the one sister that always bugged me.

Oh, dear. Someone might get really mad at me for posting these old family photos, but you gotta love 'em.
You have to add three more grandchildren to this photo. I was just barely pregnant with my first!

My Mother:
1.) Extremely Patient 2.) Extremely Charitable... always serving 3.) Everyone feels at home in her presence 4.) Spiritually Minded... very good with the "mother's intuition"!
My Father: 1.) Being a man of little words, but the words he does say are just so profound.
2.) Also, very patient 3.) Says what he means and means what he says 4.) If he tells you he is going to do something... he does it. I guess this would also be called Integrity. 5.) He has a good sense of humor.

Right now they have been called to serve a two year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Manila, Philippines. I'm so proud of them and I'm glad they are together!
I love you Dad and Mom. Happy Anniversary!

Congratulations to the Roundys. My great-great-great-great-grandfather Shadrach Roundy would be proud.

Carolyn . . . This is a very nice compliment. The best thing about being married all these years is having the five good kids God sent us.

Brad . . . Shadrach Roundy is Carolyn's fourth great grandfather, so that makes you guys fifth cousins. How are you descended from Shadrach . . . through which of his children?

I have been getting into family history lately. The line to Shadrach goes as follows:
Bradley Mark BALLARD
Harold Virgil BALLARD
Marjorie PECK
Jared Roundy PECK
Evalyn Aurelia or (Lovisa) ROUNDY
Jared Curtis ROUNDY
Shadrach ROUNDY
Shadrach appears to have been quite close to my great-great-great-great-uncle, Joseph Smith!

Brad . . . Carolyn's line comes through Shadrach other two sons. (He had three . . . Lauren, Lorenzo, and Jared.) Carolyn is a descendent from both Lauren and Lorenzo. She also is a cousin to Joseph Smith -- fifth cousin six times removed. Explains a lot about her, right?

Congrats on 43 years! What a wonderful example to all of us going through the early years wondering if it all pays off. You are proof that it is well worth it. I was just telling Brett a few days ago that I could really go for one of Carolyn's mom's chicken salad sandwiches, or better yet, my favorite egg ones that I have never been able to duplicate. Hope you have a wonderful anniversary.
