Ava's Playmate

This is what entertains Ava for minutes on end.
Our chickens are her favorite play toy, even if it's always through a glass door. They come right up to her peck peck pecking on the glass. She finds it so hilarious.

I think her first words will be "bok, bok". No lie. Ava's older sister knew how to sign about 10 different things by this age, but poor neglected Ava, only has been taught one sign... chicken.

I love her reflections in the door.

I can't believe how big everyone is getting - Ava and the chickens. It's great how you've exposed your children to some many interesting things like sign language, chickens, cross-country trips. Maybe you should expose them to Reno!

I agree, you could expose them to not only Salt Lake on the way, but the Beckstrands as well. I'm sure Ava would pick up a few more signs around here! What a good Mom you are! I love your blog because I almost miss having a baby around.

Please ask Ava: "bok-bok, bok bok, bok?" (how is her sore throat and did she be a good little chick and sleep better thru the night?)

HA Ha! Jill you speak chicken? Will our families talents never end!

Carolyn...you are a really wonderful mama. Plus you take the coolest pictures of your kids! They will know how cool you were many adult years over because they will have all these cool pictures to post on their blogs!

She looks so snuggling in this picture too! I can't wait to get my hands on her! (Ava...not the chicken.)

I am still so facinated about this whole chicken thing... So are you telling me they just roam your backyard? Why don't they run away? What do you do to take care of them? I am totally facinated with this.... oh yeah and the little squirt is kinda cute too.

Heidi, shall I answer your questions here?

Yes, they just roam the yard. We let them out of their coop (a rabbit hutch) in the mornings and they put themselves to bed at night, we just close the door. Making sure they have food and water are their basic needs. They might run away...but I have put chicken wire along our iron fence and hopefully the tons of shrubbery will keep them from going into Miss Dorothy's yard. We'll see.

They poop alot and anywhere they want. That has been the biggest bummer for me. So our porch needs to be swept often and we clean out their coop weekly.

I'm sure I'll be posting when the eggs start to arrive.

Maybe you should get some chickens!
