Keeping It Straight {Milky Way Cake Recipe}

The following would be the phone conversation with my sister this afternoon.
Cathy: Hello?
Me: You're never going to guess what I'm making tonight!
Cathy: Caramel Popcorn?
Me: Nope, a Milky Way Cake.
Cathy: Ooooh yum, A Milky Way Cake?
Me: Wait, maybe it was a 3 Musketeers Cake.
Cathy: Well which one is it?
Me: Dang, it! I bought 9 of the wrong candy bars!

The weird story of my life is there are times when my brain decides for me that something is going to be hard, I mean hard to keep straight... such as...

The two candy bars, 3 Musketeers and Milky Way. I'm always getting them mixed up. I can never keep them straight! It's very annoying. I have the same problem with people's names like

Hailey vs. Haley
Colin vs. Conner vs. Cooper {it's true Mrs Ledsinger}.

I have to make a conscious effort to decide which one is the right name. It's like my mind just decides "this is going to be difficult" and I don't have a choice in the matter.

Needless to say, I now have nine 3 Musketeers candy bars in my pantry waiting to be eaten. Dang it!

But the cake really was yummy, so here ya go...

Milky Way Cake

A friend, Carrie, told me this recipe exists. I found it on cooks.com. The directions were a little vague, so I'm adding in my own steps. Oh, and just a warning: this cake will NOT benefit anyone's New Year Resolutions.

Melt 6 Milky Way bars on top of stove with 1 stick of butter and set aside.

While the candy bars are melting, mix in a bowl 2 cups of sugar, 1 stick of room temperature butter. Beat until fluffy. Add 4 eggs one at a time.

In a different bowl sift together the following dry ingredients: 2 1/2 cups flour, 1/2 teaspoon baking soda, 1/2 teaspoon salt. Add this dry mixture to your wet mixture.

Then add 1 1/4 cup buttermilk, and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla. You also have the option of adding 1 cup of nuts. After this, mix in your 6 melted Milky Way bars.

(The recipe didn't tell me how long to bake it!) So, I poured it into a bundt pan and baked for 55-60 minutes at 325 degrees.

Now for the frosting!
Melt 3 more Milky Way bars! (but leave out the butter this time, it comes in later)
Add the slightly cooled melted candy bars with:
1 stick of room temperature butter,
2 cups powdered sugar,
...and for my secret ingredient, which is really really bad for you, but so are all the other ingredients and this secret ingredient really adds so much more to the consistency and taste. (unfortunately!) 1/2 stick of the butter flavor Crisco. You know you can buy this in stick form, right?
1 Tbls buttermilk (you may need to slowly add more in order to achieve the consistency desired.)

Love it!! I have more of those moments than I care to mention.

The cake looks super yummy...I will be hitting the candy aisle in the am.

Also, I made it through Season 2. Trying to catch Season 3 online before tomorrow night-ahh! Also trying to watch "masterpiece theater", Amazing Race and "Monarch of the Glen".

I sound so productive don't I?

I always do that with Bret, and Brent. Seriously makes me crazy! Blake's boss: Brent. Brother in law: Bret. Or wait was it the other way around?

No pictures of the cake? What's up with that?

What a cake, YUM!! And as for forgetting names and normal brain function, YOUR FINE! We all have a lot going on so sometimes we just slip it up a bit. ; )
And if your really worried that you get brain locked, do the word association game as soon as you meet someone or have to remember something.

Yummy cake! I have to put the name to a song in order to keep it right. I always get Sherry vs. Shari wrong. Or Kirsta vs. Krista wrong.
