Happy Birthday Nickel Pickle!

"Nickel" is my little sister... youngest of five, plus the middle name of Nicole, plus my parents use to tape a nickel on her outtie belly button in hopes it would pop back in (it didn't work). Her first name is Cathy... aka Chatty Cathy. These are all things I love about her plus oh so many more! Here I am holding my new baby doll. My sister Jenifer is looking on along with Mom. You have got to love the 70's decor. Actually, I'm really diggin' that blanket behind me! Mom, do we still have that?

I remember thinking Cathy always had the softest skin when we were little. She use to yell at me to stop touching her. Don't you love her little curls. See, she was my little doll.

Now she is married to an amazing surfer from Florida and she is an amazing mother to Taj. I think mother hood came just so naturally for her. He is the happiest kid I know!
Cathy is the type of person who likes everyone and finds even the dullest person extremely interesting. Life's good with Nickel around. Lately she has acquired the nick name of Polly-Anna. I don't know if she digs this too much, but it is a compliment to her happy-go-lucky personality! Everyone likes Cathy too... I mean she was Student Body President of her high school for crying out loud! She can accomplish anything she puts her mind to and does it only in a fantastic sort of Cathy way.

Love you Nickel Pickle Chatty Cathy Polly Anna. Happy Birthday!

I totally forgot about the nickel being taped to her belly button! One more unique characteristic of Cathy - her outty belly button.

Things you don't know . . .

It used to be standard practice to tape something to a child's belly button so it would not poke out. In fact, when I was old enough to comprehend it, I saw that babies regularly wore "belly-bands" that wrapped around their tummies to hold thier belly button in. My little brothers all wore these. But by the time Jill came along, I guess people decided it didn't matter if your button was an innie or an outie.

I can't remember that Cathy had a pokey button.

Happy Birthday Cathy!! Cute little family. I have an outtie belly button from having kids. Perhaps I should tape it. I'm desperate to try anything!
