What's a "gua"?

Gua is Chinese for melon. That is what my Chinese neighbors taught me when I asked them what on earth was growing on my side of the fence. Mr Lee (this is what we concluded I could call him) instructed me to cut it right away. It was ready to eat. He gave me instructions on how to prepare it and this evening I did as told. When I cut into this enormous melon I thought it resembled zucchini but with the spongy consistency of an eggplant. We'll needless to say, it didn't taste bad. Actually, it didn't taste like anything! Maybe I didn't follow my instructions very well or maybe my neighbors enjoy really bland food, but Aaron and I didn't think it was anything to shout about. Oh, well. It was exciting to watch this giant growing and cook it up. I think I'll have to bring her some of my mother-in-laws tasty muffins I make. Then Mrs. and Mr. Lee will really know what good food tastes like.

Well, even if it doesn't taste like anything at least you have some type of fruit tree.

I didn't know melons could grow on trees! That thing looks huge sitting on your table!

And now you had better hope that Mrs Lee never starts to read your blog because you are dissing on her bland taste-buds! :)
